Nestled in between high peaks, with mountain streams, high summer pastures and rustic villages, the Canton of Massat is found in the department of the Ariege in the French Pyrenees.

Found at the mouth of the Lers valley and the high Arac valley, its lush green slopes are in the heart of the pivotal region between the Couserans and Foix.The surrounding mountain passes of the Col de Port, Crouzette, Saraille, the Port du Lers and du Portet link the Massadel to other valleys in the department, but also serve to preserve the natural history found here.

Massat, and the surrounding area does not lack in outdoor activities – hiking, horse riding and trekking, climbing, mountain biking, paragliding and fishing are but a few of the activities available, some of which take place amid the stunning natural beauty found at the “Etang de Lers”
